The Best Necro Build
Hi everyone,
I've decided to make a new Necromancer and I'm still in pre-searing. Having made a monk before with advice from this forum (and the monk turning out pretty good) I've decided to ask you guys for advice again!
I'm quite oblivious to necromancers and I've just browsed this necromancer section looking for tips; I have to say I didn't understand most of what people were saying, not knowing what various skills were and so on. (Sorry!)
My enquiry is: what class would you guys consider "best" for coupling with my primary profession of necromancer? I know that the idea of "best" is relative 'n' all, but ideally I want to be a necromancer who specializes in death magic (minions et al.) but who can also do some damage and not rely on a healing monk to survive....(also, not running out of energy!). I was thinking of elementalist, but I'm really not sure. I had a look on the builds section and most of the necromancer builds were geared towards PVP - and I'm a PVE player.
Also, once I've chosen my secondary profession, what skills and attributes do I need to try and max?
If people could suggest what the generally accepted "good" necro build is, and how to achieve it, I'd be very, very grateful.
Thanks

The Echo SS/SV build is posted here in this forum... but only useful in UW if you ask me... also The invinci build and massive blood dmg can also be found in this forum.... if u want a build thats easy to find groups for missions try the self battery healer.....n/mo.......use offering of blood elite to self battery and your a healer with endless energy, thats the one i used to beat the game and then I developed the others for different aspects of the game... I also find it more efficient to buy different armor for each build, then your not constantly buying and replacing runes... let me know what build your looking for and I'll post it here within the next couple hours, just gotta run some errands!

if you are ascended... here is a good build to pair up with a invinci monk to do 2man UW runs:
16Curses, 11 death, 6 soul reaping, 9 illusion, 3 blood
thats a superior curses and death rune
with super vigor, u should have 411 health
i use a insightful bone staff of death magic or of curses
spellbar:
arcane echo, spiteful spirit[e], deathly swarm, deathly chill, putrid explosion, bloot ritual, sympathetic visage, rez sig
echo and ss to drop on mobs... swarm is just for added aoe on them...
use deathly chill each time you see a nightmare, immediately... they strip the monks enchants...
putrid on all available corpses to add dmg
blood rit to give monk energy when low
SV to put on monk when fighting the smites...
rez for...ummm rezzing... hope u dont need it
this is great for farming ecto, and chests...

Sorry but I don't know what the Underworld is or where/how to get elite skills.
What's a SS/SV build?

guys, don't get carried away. he's either still in pre-searing or hasn't made the character yet.
back on topic, the best secondary for a minion master will either be monk or ranger. monk healing spells can keep your health up as you sacrifice to keep your minions healthy, while healing spring from the ranger line can keep minions health up on its own. most minion masters opt for /mo secondary though.

the ranger side can get you a spirit, but the /mo is great for healing.
if you want lots of minions who are easy to keep alive, go monk.
if you want your minions to do more damage, but be harder to keep alive, go ranger.
mesmer is also an option for a minion master, for an elite skill called "echo".

Monk it is then!
I am still in pre-searing with my necromancer. My highest level character is 20 but I'm only in that Henge place after you fight the White Mantle.
How many points will I put in healing, death magic and soul-reaping?
Also: how do I get more attribute points once I'm passed level 20?
Thanks guys

there are 2 quests you can do to gain extra attribute points. LOL I have lvl 20 w/mo that's just at the henge and a LvL 18 E/N that's at Druids...
Anyway, I think Mortalis hit it on the head. Go N/Mo if you're going to death magic. I think this would be your best choice.
If you change your mind and want to Curse/Blood then I'd suggest going Mes..

One option for minions - and since I'm the only player I've ever see do this in PVE, that'll tell you how popular it is =p - would be /Warrior. What? Yes, Warrior! Because enemies in PVE (especially in the early game) like to bunch up, you can get a tremendous amount of use out of Mark of Pain. That, plus Tactics shouts (like "Watch Yourself!") and a bunch of meaty meat-hitters (the Bone Horrors) can take you pretty far.
I had very specific concept reasons for N/W (and this was basically at launch, so stratergiseners weren't very common), and eventually switched to /Me just for change of pace, but.. I think there's something to be said for a kind of one-man-army that the Nec/War can be, specialising in Tactics and giving your minions bonuses that way.

N/Mo and N/Me are the two biggies, but there are some N/E combinations that work well also.
Off the top of my head, Enfeebling Blood + Stoning is a funny combo.
